![]() |
No one could be more surprised than Teresa Mallen herself, when she discovered she had artistic ability. Unlike many artists, she did not grow up with a pencil in her hand drawing everything she saw. Painting was limited to arts and crafts projects and many paint by number kits. In spite of this, Teresa remembers always having a love of form, design and colour. |
| Teresa fell in love with
art as a young adult and was greatly inspired by visiting
art galleries, special exhibits and shows. This led her
to attempt her own work in oil and later acrylic. Wanting
more control and wishing to explore drawing, Teresa
turned to graphite and pen and ink. Excited to discover
that she could actually draw, she started to develop her
skills. A desire to add colour resulted in a brief period
of watercolour exploration. Finally, she turned to
coloured pencil to add colour to her pen and ink sketches. Coloured pencils offered the control of graphite as well as a painterly approach to applying colour. Intrigued by the effects these pencils could give, Teresa was delighted to discover what other artists were able to achieve. Teresa set about learning all she could about working with coloured pencils. Teresa in now working full time as a coloured pencil artist and is a member of the Colored Pencil Society of America. Her love for the medium has led her to share her passion with others, through teaching classes as well as providing individual instruction.
